Customer service was awesome and helped to quickly support me when I needed to upgrade to a larger crate. Not your average dog crate. Very pleased. And the pup loves it.

3 Types of Dog Crates and Choosing the Right One

Crate training your dog is an excellent decision, but many owners are against it. A kennel keeps your pup away from house guests, and is a safe place to leave them unattended. Kennels can also provide safe containment while traveling. Keep reading to learn about the three types of dog crates and choosing the right one.

Plastic Crates

Plastic crates are a good option for dogs that escape from other crate types, or for dogs that like a cozy, isolated environment at home. Plastic crates are also mandatory for big dogs on planes, so it’s good to have one ready before your trip. Unfortunately, plastic crates are poorly ventilated, so your pup could overheat during the plane ride.

Soft Crates

Soft crates are an excellent option for non-destructive dogs, and they’re the best choice for traveling in the car. A soft-sided dog kennel folds up nicely, and you can store it almost anywhere when you’re not using it. If you prefer to have your small dog closer to you in the car, you can opt for a small dog carrier tote bag instead of a crate.

While soft crates are convenient and portable, they are difficult to clean in the event of an accident. Your dog could chew through a soft crate if they are teething or bored, so ensure they have a toy nearby.

Wire Crates

Wire crates are the perfect option if your dog overheats quickly or if you live in a hot climate. Some wire crates have dividers, so you can adjust the crate’s size to fit your dog’s needs. The removable floor tray is easy to clean, making this an excellent option when house training dogs.

The downsides to a wire crate are that they are heavy and easily escapable if your dog is smart enough to figure out the lock.

To have stress-free travels, your dog must get familiar with its crate. Learning about the three types of dog crates and choosing the right one is essential for every dog owner. Each pup is unique, and they all have different needs for the perfect kennel.
