Customer service was awesome and helped to quickly support me when I needed to upgrade to a larger crate. Not your average dog crate. Very pleased. And the pup loves it.

The Benefits of Walking Your Dog With a Hands-Free Leash

The Benefits of Walking Your Dog With a Hands-Free Leash

Just like dogs, leashes come in many shapes and varieties. A hands-free leash is just one of the possibilities, but it’s relatively uncommon among the dog-owning community. As the name suggests, hands-free leashes require no hands, and they typically attach to some sort of belt or another clothing item. Consider the benefits of walking your dog with a hands-free leash to determine if it’s right for you and your pup.

Indoor Hands-Free Training

There’s no better way to leash train your pup than inside your home. This way, you can avoid distractions like people, pets, and wildlife. Simply wear the leash as you do normal daily chores and have your dog follow you around the house. Reward them with treats for good behavior, and continue training this way until they’re ready to go outside.

Works Well for Properly-Behaved Dogs

Unless your dog is very well-behaved, hands-free leashes may not be the best option. For instance, if your dog tends to pull away from you on a leash, you’re more likely to fall using a hands-free option. However, if your pup walks politely on a regular leash, you can take advantage of a hands-free dog leash. You and your four-legged friend can easily take a walk around the neighborhood, go for a hike, walk around the local shopping center, etc., all while keeping your hands free.

Allows for Pulling Workouts

Believe it or not, many people want their dogs to pull them along for running or hiking workouts. In fact, pulling can make for a more intense workout for both of you. With that in mind, you should find a way to let your dog know when you want them to pull you versus staying close to you. Consider designating a specific harness for pulling and using a regular collar for regular walks; you can also use a command word or phrase to train them to pull and heel.

Easier for Running Together

Running together is an excellent workout, but holding a leash and running properly can be difficult. In addition, dogs are less likely to pull you when they get to run. Therefore, you can put your dog on a hands-free leash for the best possible running experience.

Now that you know the benefits of walking your dog with a hands-free leash, you can make the best decision for yourself. Although this technique isn’t for everyone, there are plenty of reasons to consider a hands-free walking or running experience with your dog.
