5 Must-Have Dog Camping Gear Items for Your Next Adventure
Posted by Glady Gines on
Don't leave your pup at home during your next camping trip—bring them along for the ride. With fresh air and plenty of interesting areas to explore, the woods are one of the best places to bring your dog for a bit of exercise and bonding.
But even though camping with your best friend is fun, it also requires some preparation on your end. To ensure you have everything you need for your trip, we've compiled this list of five must-have dog camping gear items for your next adventure.
A Leash & Collar
You'll need a long and sturdy leash so you can hike through the wilderness comfortably with your pup. In addition to the leash, you'll also want to make sure your dog is wearing their collar and ID tag in case they get lost.
Since cell service isn't always reliable in the woods, you may even want to consider attaching a small capsule to your dog's collar and including a slip of paper with your name and cell number. You can also include where you're camping and what your vehicle looks like.
A Comfy Carrier
The next must-have dog camping gear item for your next adventure is a carrier. Your pup needs a cozy place to sleep, too! If you know your pup won't wander off, a regular dog bed and blanket in your tent will suffice, but for dogs prone to wandering, a soft-sided dog kennel is best. Make sure to measure accordingly so your pup has plenty of space inside of their temporary bedroom.
Food & Water
You'll need fresh water and food for your pup. You can store water in a thermos and food in plastic bags and then use collapsible food bowls to serve them their meals. We recommend bringing along a few treats as well, so your pup has something to munch on while you're out and about.
A First Aid Kit
A dog first aid kit is a necessity for every dog-and-human camping trip. Many of the items in a human first aid kit are appropriate for use on dogs, but not all of them. You'll need to pick up some special bandages that don't stick to your dog’s fur and a bottle of hydrogen peroxide plus a syringe to induce vomiting if your pup chews on something they aren't supposed to.
Microfiber Towels
Camping can get dirty. And when it gets dirty, soft microfiber towels come in handy. You can use these towels to wipe dirt off your dog or dry them off after a splash in the river.
